How to Clean Microfiber Couch
No one likes to find a stain or soil on their microfiber couch. Understanding how to remove the spot of dirt is the best solution to keeping your furniture looking as new tomorrow as it did the first day it arrived. The cleaning code, cleaning methods and maintenance of your microfiber couch can be easy to understand.
The cleaning code on most microfiber couches will include one of three letter combinations. If the label reads the letter “W”, any stains or dirt spots can be cleaned using a water-based cleaning solution. If the letter reads “S”, a solvent based cleaning solution can be used. If the label reads both letters, the consumer has the choice of either a water based or solvent based cleaning solution.
A water based cleaning solution will essentially be prepared with water and a small amount of soap or natural cleaning product. For a common dirt spot, mix a few drop of mild soap with water and work out the dirt with a cloth dipped in the solution. If odor is a problem, white vinegar or baking soda can be mixed with water to remove the stain. It is important to use as little cleaning solution as possible to prevent a huge wet ring on the microfiber sofa.
A solvent based cleaning solution is often purchased as a cleaning product. Goo Gone, Dryel and foaming upholstery cleaners are all solvent based. These products should be used based upon the manufacturer directions. It is important not to mix different solvent based cleaning solutions together when trying to remove a spot or stain.
Cleaning your microfiber sofa should NEVER require a huge amount of liquid. If the sofa is saturated, mildew or a wet ring could end up ruining the sofa. The smaller the amount of cleaning solution needed to remove the spot or stain, the better. It is also important to never spray cleaners whether water based or solvent based directly on the microfiber couch. The solution will simply absorb into the fabric. All cleaning solutions should be applied to a clean cloth and worked into the stain by hand.
Maintaining the microfiber couch is the best way to keep dirt and grime from becoming a problem. Many professional carpet cleaning companies will also steam clean microfiber sofas. Steam cleaners are a quick and effective way to remove surface dirt that may have accumulated over time. If a spot has been removed only to dry and reveal a “clean” spot on the sofa, it may be time to have the professionals take over and clean the entire microfiber couch. Microfiber couches can also be maintained with regular lint rolling and vacuuming. Removing any loose surface dirt can keep the surface clean for a longer period of time.
